Mr. Yousuf Almas expressed his gratitude to Dr. Younis Bhatti for sponsoring the seminar. Talking to the participants, CEO Eduvision, Mr. Yousuf Almas defined the career planning as a continuous process that is done by considering the students aptitude, his/her desire, national and international circumstances, status of the different fields in the society and job market. “The selection of a discipline or a field of study is the most important decision involved in a student’s life. The wrong selection of discipline which may not suit the student’s aptitude can seriously jeopardize his/her future”, he said

“Career Planning is more successful if you link it with other parts of your life. What are your family and leisure activities? How is university education important to you? Are you more of a hands-on learner? Are you more successful as part of a team or can work better alone?” he further added. He narrated that the student ought to o know about his/her strengths and weaknesses and must also know about the different fields of study available. He said that while deciding about the field of study the student must consider his/her qualification, expense of the study and the institutions offering the required disciplines.

“Three phases are involved in the process of career Planning and these are Information, preparation and Exploration. A student has to consider his social background, qualification, marks and his/her attitude towards certain subjects while choosing a field of study. Parents and teachers can play an important role in this regard” he further added. He said that sometimes parents and relatives decide about the career of a child totally neglecting the aptitude, goals and educational background of the students that results in ruining the life of the child. He said that students must also get satisfactory information about the legal status of the institution, accreditation status of the degree, fee structure and examination system before applying for admission in a particular institution. He said that the exact procedure of choosing a field of study involves five steps.

Mr. Sohaib Ahmad Khan presented the introduction, pre-requisites, work/job style, scope, special qualities required to excel in a particular field, and aptitude required for the following fields of studies and disciplines offered in these fields.

Mr. Sohaib Ahmad Khan also guided the students about the opportunities available in Pakistan for different groups of study i.e. Medical, Engineering, Humanities etc. He also guided the students about the education system of Pakistan, accreditation authorities. In addition this he also presented a brief about the entry test of the medical colleges, Engineering universities of the Punjab, and also about National Testing Service.

Students asked a number of questions in Question & Answer session. Q&A session prolonged for more than 40 minutes due to the great interest shown by the students about their career planning.
