LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has introduced associate degree program in four colleges as a pilot project to generate skilled manpower for the job market.
The PHEC has introduced the associate degree programme in IT, media, finance and textile in four colleges of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan to cater to the market need. This programme will later be launched in other public colleges of the province.
The programme had been launched on reports of a committee that the students doing graduation were finding it very difficult to get job.
It is pertinent to mention here that associate degree program is equivalent to 14 years BA/BSc program already available in most of the colleges of the country. But this program is only limited to science or arts subjects, and all degrees in professional fields are 4-years or 5-years duration.
