Islamabad – The federal government has announced a public holiday on Wednesday, May 28, in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating Pakistan’s historic nuclear tests conducted in 1998.
According to an official notification, all government and semi-government offices across the country will remain closed on this day. The holiday marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s defense history when the country became the seventh nuclear power in the world and the first in the Muslim world to successfully conduct nuclear tests.
Youm-e-Takbeer is observed annually to pay tribute to the scientists, armed forces, and national leadership who played a key role in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
The announcement of the holiday is also aimed at allowing citizens to reflect on the importance of national security, unity, and progress.
Ceremonies and events are expected to be held across the country to mark the occasion.
