Federal Minister of Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood said that Government is seriously considering reopening schools in the country. Schools authorities will be directed follow SOPs strictly. The federal Minister said that according to a recent Gallup survey, 70 percent of the parents showed willingness to send their children to schools if SOPs are implemented.
Federal Government has also sought suggestions from all provincial governments on preparation of SOPs and reopening of schools. KP Government has also announced the same. However in a strange move, KP Government also mentioned in the SOPs that if a student or a staff member dies due to coronavirus, the school administration shall be held responsible.
Punjab Schools department is also preparing SOPs for schools and it is suggested to reopen schools in three phases. In the first phase, only class 9 and class 10th students will attend schools. In the second phase, class 5 and class 8 students will be called. It is also decided to open schools for only 3 hours, and only compulsory subjects' classes will be held.
