Govt to End Marks System in Matric and Inter Exam
Government of Punjab has finalized the formalities to introduce the grade system for Matriculation and Intermediate examinations and put an end to the marks race. The basic purpose is to bring the system at par with Cambridge O-Level and A-Level system.
According to the details, the Government has decided not to award marks in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade board examinations and has decided to introduce the Grade system. According to this system, students will only be awarded A, B, C etc… grades only. This will help to end the race amongst the students to score maximum marks. Inter Board Committee of Chairmen, IBCC, suggested the government to end marks system which has been accepted now.
In the first phase, only the grading system shall be introduced from this year for 9th class results. In the coming years, the same will be applicable to 10th class exams and so on.
Although it seems a good initiative by the Government, but this might create problems in Medical and University admissions here in Pakistan, where merit is very high and due to the high competition students are denied admission by a fraction of a number.
