Higher Education Commission HEC, Islamabad has developed a new curriculum for undergraduate programs offered at universities. The new curriculum is in line with modern requirements and technological advancement. This curriculum will be implemented from next year. HEC has been working on the plans to revise the undergraduate curriculum in the country for the last 18 months.
HEC has put extra efforts in preparing the curriculum and has consulted with 1,000 stakeholders of 143 universities. Inclusion of Social sciences subjects in the curriculum was demanded, hence in the new curriculum, in the early semesters, it is compulsory for every student to complete the most important fields of humanities, namely Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Quantitative Reasoning, and Expository Writing, General Education Courses and Pakistan Studies and Islamic Studies.
In later semesters, students will take the required institutional courses that include their major subjects. Students will have the facility to graduate in one major including one or two minors in addition to one major or double major. The new curriculum makes practical experience a must for graduates. All students will be required to do an internship and will also be required to choose additional skills such as internship, business development, etc. This framework will apply to all undergraduate degrees. New undergraduate programs will allow students to move from one-degree program to another.
