The Punjab government has officially announced an extension in winter vacations for schools across the province due to an ongoing prolonged winter spell and extremely low temperatures forecast for the coming week.
According to a statement shared by Rana Sikandar Hayat, the decision was taken on the recommendation of PDMA (Provincial Disaster Management Authority) in view of public health and student safety concerns. As per the notification, winter vacations have been extended till 19th January.
The provincial authorities noted that severe cold weather conditions could pose health risks, especially for children, prompting the government to delay the reopening of educational institutions. The move aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and school staff during the harsh weather.
Parents and students have welcomed the decision, considering the unusually low temperatures affecting many parts of Punjab. Schools are now expected to reopen after January 19, subject to further weather assessments and official instructions.
The Punjab government has advised parents to stay updated through official channels for any further changes related to school schedules.
