Many of Pakistani universities are facing problems in implementing online teaching. Although HEC has asked all universities to begin online lectures, universities lack required infra-structure, training and technical staff to implement online teaching. Many of the universities do not even have proper Learning Management System.
Students are also facing problems while downloading heavy video files. Many complain that they are unable to download 2 GB videos daily for each subject. Teachers are also facing problems due to lack of infrastructure and IT Support. Due to lack of infrastructure and required training, some teachers started posting pictures of their power point slides in whatsapp groups without any video or audio support. Hence students were unable to understand the topic.
Due to these problems, many well known and large universities in Pakistan have announced summer vacations and closed online teaching mode. Universities require time and resource to properly initiate the online teaching. Hence it seems a wise decision to take time for switching over to a completely different mode of studies.
Although HEC has asked the universities and other degree-awarding intuitions which have well-instituted and operational learning management system (LMS) to begin online lectures, at the same time, the HEC has clarified the universities which are not yet ready for online instructions, on account of different limitations (technological, technical or spatial) may choose to remain closed for all formal academic processes until May 31, 2020, and treat the break period as summer vacation.
