world’s largest VNGO for Pakistanis.
The seminar started with the recitation of Holy
Qur’an. Prof. Badeer-uz-Zaman expressed his gratitude to the Eduvision and
Contact Pakistan for organizing the career planning seminar at Government
College, Peshawar in his short welcome speech. He also advised the students
to listen to the speakers carefully and incorporate what they will learn
from this seminar into their future decision.
Mr. Yousuf Almas express his gratitude to Mr.
Iftikhar Awan for sponsoring the seminar. Talking to the participants, CEO
Eduvision, Mr. Yousuf Almas said that the process of career planning starts
in the early age of a child, when he/she desires of becoming a doctor or a
pilot. In our society the process the career planning starts right after the
birth of a child when the parents and the relatives start deciding of
his/her career.
“Choosing a career is the most crucial decision of
anyone's life as it determines how you will spend your life, what you will
be known as, what your lifestyle will be like, how much you will earn and
what you will be doing. So, career planning can be defined as the systematic
way of achieving one’s objectives in a relatively long-term or lifelong job
or occupation. Career planning is the main route which leads a person to the
right path of success and honor to secure his/her future” he added.
He said that career planning is done with the help
of available resources to achieve one’s goal in his life. “Three phases are
involved in the process of career Planning and these are Information,
preparation and Exploration. A student has to consider his social
background, qualification, marks and his/her attitude towards certain
subjects while choosing a field of study. Parents and teachers can play an
important role in this regard” he further added. He said that sometimes
parents and relatives decide about the career of a child totally neglecting
the aptitude, goals and educational background of the students that results
in ruining the life of the child. “While deciding about a field of study for
you, you must also consider the future requirements of the country and
global scenario”, he narrated. He said that students must also get
satisfactory information about the legal status of the institution,
accreditation status of the degree, fee structure and examination system
before applying for admission in a particular institution. He also guided
the students about the exact procedure of choosing a field of study.
Prof. Dr. Saif-ullah Ajmal delivered a lecture on
the fields of Agriculture, Medical, Biological Sciences, Natural Sciences
genetics and biotechnology. He said that two of the basic necessities of the
human being, food and the cloths, are directly derived from the agriculture.
He narrated that with the help of agriculture and biotechnology we can crop
more and better quality food. “The population of the world is increasing day
by day and the area of cultivatable land is decreasing due to whether
changes and global warming. In these circumstances we need to find out the
ways to grow more food on the unit area of land. Similarly we need to
transform the uncultivable land into fertile ones. Hence, a continuous
process of research is involved in the field of Agriculture and
Biotechnology”, he further added. He also guided the students about the
field of genetics. He narrated that with the help of Genetics we can add the
properties of two or more living things and create a new one having the
characteristic of both, for example we can add the genes of dog and bird and
can create a new animal having the body of bird and mouth of a dog. He also
mentioned the names of agricultural institution and research centers
operating in the country and their eligibility criteria.
Guiding the students about the field of medical he
said that a major misconception about the field of medical is that there are
only two or three disciplines in this field in spite of the fact that 12
disciplines are being offered at undergraduate level in Pakistan but the
students only know about the Medicine (MBBS) and Dentistry (BDS). He
explained that only 12% of the students applying in medical colleges get
admission colleges and others go to the social sciences, business
administration etc. even though they have the strong desire to continue
their studies in the field of medical. He guided the students about the
disciplines available in Pakistan in the field of medical at undergraduate
level. He also guided the students about the nature of job a doctor has to
do and briefly about what a student studies in a particular field.
“Students who want to choose medical as a career
must remember that it requires at least ten to twelve years of continuous
hard work that starts from high school. This hard work does not end with the
completion of MBBS/BDS degree but a student has to specialize after MBBS.
The specialization degrees may include FCPS, MS or MD”, he further added.
He guided the students about the nature of job a doctor has to do. He also
guided the students about the requirements and pre-requisites of MBBS
degree, entry test and alternatives. He explained the admission process and
entry test pattern of the medical colleges of N.W.F.P. in detail. He guided
