International
Islamic University, Islamabad
has announced the admissions for Spring Semester 2008. Last date
to apply is 10th December 2007.
The entry
test of the
Medical & Dental colleges of Punjab
was held on 28th October 2007. Last date to apply is 20th
November 2007.
Funds allocated for
4 engineering universities to be set up in the country. Two out of these 4 universities
will be set up in
Lahore. These
Universities are being set up with the support of other
countries as a part of the program of setting up nine
engineering universities in the country.
Higher Education Commission has decided to set up
National Law University (NLU)
in the Federal Capital. The university will offer five years
L.L.B. program and will start functioning in March 2008. The
university will also have linkages with the other International
Universities. A number of students sent abroad in previous
years, to complete their Doctorate degrees, will be employed in
the University.

Three
Pakistani public sector universities have been ranked among the
top 600
universities of the world.
The Higher Education Times Supplement of the United Kingdom
placed the
National University of Science and Technology at 470th
place, the
University of Karachi at 560th,
and the
Quaid-e-Azam University at 564th.
The ranking of Pakistani public universities among the top
universities of the world is proof of the efforts that have been
put by the Higher Education Commission to raise the standards of
higher education in the county since its inception.

VIPs’
photos to be scrapped from textbooks
The photographs and messages of President Gen
Pervez Musharraf, provincial chief ministers and other VIPs appearing in the
new textbooks will be scrapped, the National Assembly was told on Wednesday.
“Provincial textbook boards and the National Book Foundation have conveyed
the directions to all concerned for strict compliance of the decision taken
in 10th Inter-Provincial Education Minister’s Conference regarding no
messages/photographs of president, prime minister, chief ministers,
governors, ministers and other VIPs in the schoolbooks. The textbooks
currently being used by students were printed before the decision,”
