Engineering Education in Pakistan

Science and Technology plays an important role in the development of a country. No nation can take advantage of development without making major advances in Science and Technology. At the time of independence there was no engineering university and hardly were a few engineering colleges in the country.

Now, about 40 universities and colleges are imparting the knowledge of Engineering and Technology in the country, some of them occupy the top position in Asia, making the young generation proficient enough to designs the latest aircrafts such as JF17 Thunder, cruise missiles, satellite technology that lies millions of miles above our heads and plans tunnels hundreds of meters below the sea.

At this time more than 50 different fields of engineering are being offered in the country at Bachelor and Master Level. Specialized fields are also available at PhD Level.

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) cares for the engineering education in the country to ensure a uniform standard. The council has introduced annual system of examinations in all engineering universities/ colleges. However, some universities are following both semester and annual system. A period of 4 academic years of studies has been fixed for a candidate to obtain Bachelors degree.
