Medical Education in Pakistan

About 68 medical & Dental colleges, recognized by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), are operating in the country . PMDC cares for the medical education in Pakistan. The council has designed an Annual system of study for medical and dental degrees. MBBS degree requires minimum five years to complete. Medical means MBBS to everyone in spite of the fact that 14 sub-fields are available in the field of Medical  at undergraduate level (after 12 years of educaiton e.g. FSc. A'Level etc.)  in Pakistan and each of them is of utmost importance including MBBS. These include Dentistry (BDS), Pharmacy (D.Pharm) and Nursing etc.

House job, internship and postgraduate studies are also being offered in different allied hospitals of medical colleges. Major training courses such as Fellowship of College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS), under the supervision of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, Master of Surgery (M.S.), and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in different disciplines are offered at postgraduate level.  Major Training courses usually take 3 to 4 years to complete.
