Government College University (GCU) Lahore opens its doors to everyone interested in knowledge seeking through "Free Education for All”. The "Free Education for All" program will be launched in the first phase as a pilot project at the Institute of History in the fall of 2023. The program will be extended to other departments as well at the later stages.
Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, VC GCU, said that those interested in acquiring knowledge can attend classes without appearing in exams and submitting assignments. Interested candidates can request permission from the university to attend the classes.
Under this program, participants will have the opportunity to choose courses of their choice from various degree programs offered by the university. There will be no grading of assignments or exams, and no degree will be awarded upon completion. Instead, individuals will have the opportunity to attend classes and gain valuable information from highly qualified faculty members.
Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi said that education should be made accessible to all irrespective of age, race, religion, educational background, or financial conditions.
Applicants interested in participating in this program must complete a police verification process, obtain a university card worth Rs 200, and obtain the approval of the chairperson and teacher of the desired program or course.
To begin this initiative, the university has initially narrowed offerings within the Institute of Global and Historical Studies to three disciplines: history, art history, and archival studies. However, plans are underway to expand the program to other departments beginning in the spring 2024 semester.
