The government of Punjab has decided to recruit 30000 school teachers on a visiting basis. Punjab is facing a severe shortage of teachers in the province. According to a report, over 115 thousand posts of teachers are vacant in the province. The last major recruitment of schoolteachers occurred in 2018 under the PML-N government.
30000 visiting school teachers will be hired through school councils. The government will release additional funds in this regard. As per reports, each school council will receive PKR: 4 million for salaries of the visiting teachers. School councils will also generate additional funds to meet the needs of expenditures.
The school councils would comprise parents of students, school teachers, and members of civil society. School councils will be responsible for making important decisions regarding recruitment of the teachers and other issues of the schools. According to the school education department, visiting teachers in schools will be paid based on the number of lectures delivered.
