Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) which represents all boards of Secondary and Intermediate Education in the country is all set to introduce a new examination and marking system for Matric and Inter exams in the country. According to the new system, the pass percentage of all boards will be increased from 33% to 40%. GPA system will be introduced and the marks sheet will no longer mention the marks obtained by the student.
The new certificate “Result Card” will replace the old Marks Sheet of the students. The new grading system introduced will be used across the country including Punjab, Sindh, KP, and all boards. In the matric and inter levels, the new system will replace the old system in a phase-wise manner in the next 3 years.
The current mark sheet at matric and inter level will be phased out from this year which will be initially started with the results of classes 9 and 11. The new result card system will be approved on Monday. It is expected that the IBCC meeting will be held in Karachi, in which the chairmen of education boards across the country are participating.
The new mark sheet issued by the name of Result Card has been prepared by the IBCC Subcommittee, as per the new grading system, the marks of the examination papers will not be mentioned in the result cards at Matric and Inter level.
In the first phase, marks and grades obtained on the mark sheet in the current year 2023, along with GP/GPA/CGPA will also be written, and the first phase will be applied to ninth and eleventh classes. It should be noted that in the new grading policy, the passing marks at matric and inter level will now be 40% instead of 33%, while the mark sheet/result card will not include the word ‘fail’.
Similarly, in the second phase, in the next year 2024, the column of marks obtained in all four classes 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th will be deleted and only grade, GP / GPA / CG will be mentioned. PA will be written and on the final note of the result card it will be written candidate has passed with GPA ….. out of 5.0.
In the final phase in the year 2025 when the new grading system will be fully implemented, the grade, GP and final GPA will be written in front of each subject in the result card of the said year.
It may be recalled that the implementation of "10 points grading system" at matric and inter level across the country was approved in the meeting held by IBCC.
