The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a set of important recommendations to the Education Department in anticipation of an upcoming heatwave. The authority has proposed banning all outdoor school activities and starting summer vacations earlier than scheduled to protect students from extreme temperatures.
According to the advisory, temperatures across Punjab are expected to rise significantly in the coming weeks, creating potentially hazardous conditions for school-going children. To minimize health risks, PDMA has urged school administrations to take immediate precautionary measures.
Key Recommendations by PDMA:
- Complete ban on outdoor activities in schools, including sports events, morning assemblies, and outdoor competitions.
- Ensure proper classroom ventilation and that fans and cooling systems are in fully functional condition.
- Parents are advised to dress their children in light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothes to help beat the heat.
Proposal for Early Summer Break:
PDMA has also suggested that this year’s summer vacations in Punjab should begin earlier than usual. This move is aimed at minimizing students’ exposure to dangerously high temperatures. The Education Department is currently reviewing this proposal and will issue a final decision soon.
Parents and teachers have welcomed the suggestions, stating that children’s health and safety must be the top priority. With increasing incidents of heatstroke and dehydration reported each summer, this preventive approach is considered timely and essential.
