The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has officially opened applications for Fall 2026 PhD scholarships under the US–Pakistan Knowledge Corridor, creating a major opportunity for Pakistani students aiming to study in top-ranked universities in the United States. This initiative is part of Pakistan’s long-term strategy to strengthen research, innovation, and human capital by sending talented scholars to globally recognised institutions.

These scholarships are specifically designed for PhD programs in leading U.S. universities ranked in the top 100 according to QS World Rankings. It is important to note that the scholarship is strictly for direct PhD admissions and does not cover MS leading to PhD pathways. Applicants are required to secure admission before applying or at least be in the process with strong supporting credentials.

The program offers two main categories. Category I covers students admitted to top 50 QS-ranked U.S. universities and includes full tuition coverage as per university invoice, along with a stipend and health insurance. Category II applies to universities ranked between 51 and 100, where tuition support is provided up to $12,000 per year, along with a stipend and health coverage. This structure ensures that high-achieving students targeting top-tier institutions receive maximum financial support.

Eligibility criteria are clearly defined to ensure merit-based selection. Applicants must be Pakistani or AJK nationals and should have completed at least 16 years of education, typically a bachelor’s or equivalent degree. Academic performance plays a crucial role, as candidates must not have any third division in their academic history. Age limits are also enforced: up to 40 years for government employees and faculty members, and up to 35 years for other applicants. Additionally, candidates must not be availing any other scholarship at the time of application.

Standardized testing is another key requirement. Applicants must present a valid GRE score with a minimum of 300 total marks, or alternatively meet the HEC HAT score requirement of at least 60 percent. These benchmarks are essential to ensure candidates can compete at an international academic level.

The selection process is competitive and purely merit-based. Meeting eligibility does not guarantee selection, as HEC evaluates applicants based on academic excellence, test scores, research potential, and admission strength. Preference is often given to candidates applying in priority subject areas identified by HEC, which typically include fields critical to Pakistan’s development such as science, technology, engineering, and emerging disciplines.

Applicants must submit their forms online through the official HEC scholarship portal. It is strongly recommended to prepare all documents in advance, including academic transcripts, test scores, statement of purpose, and proof of admission or application to a U.S. university. Incomplete or late submissions are not considered.

The deadline for application submission is April 30, 2026. Missing this deadline means waiting for the next cycle, which may not have the same opportunities or funding levels.
