Career in Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering is the use and development of innovative technologies in the field of medicine and health sciences. Better and effiecient machines and tools are developed for better diagnosis, surgery and devices for the welfare of mankind. Biomedical Engineers also develop artificial organs such as robotic hands, robotic legs, hearing aid, and artificial limbs for those who have lost their precious organs in any accident or due to any illness.

What do biomedical engineers do?

Biomedical engineers

  • Design and build machinery used in hospitals and laboratories
  • Develop machines and devices to examine the health of individuals
  • Develop devices and sensors to measure blood chemistry, such as iron, haemoglobin, sugar and sodium.
  • Design and Develop artificial organs for example pace maker, artificial legs, robotic hand etc..
  • Work on stem cell engineering and the 3-D printing of biological organs
  • Design the instruments and devices for the therapeutic uses for example the device for the eye surgery.
