ISLAMABAD, September 12, 2026 (P.R.) — Career counselling is not merely about providing students with information about degree programmes; rather, it is about guiding them to understand their personality, interests, and abilities so that they can make scientifically informed career choices and lead better lives.
These views were expressed by Yousuf Almas, Head of Eduvision and Chief Career Counsellor of “Mera Career,” while addressing a capacity-building training session organized for career counsellors under the “Mera Career” programme. The programme is being implemented in the federal capital through collaboration between the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Federal Directorate of Education, and Eduvision Career Counselling.
Yousuf Almas emphasized that career counsellors must adopt modern principles and approaches to provide quality career guidance. He said counsellors need to keep pace with changes taking place in education and professional life around the world and prepare students for emerging career trends.
He said that only a trained and competent career counsellor can effectively guide students in making better educational and professional decisions according to their abilities and personality. He stressed that counsellors must not only provide guidance to students but also remain well-informed about global developments and emerging career opportunities.
During the training session, Director Operations and Outreach Engineer Abu Bakr trained the participating counsellors and highlighted various methods for providing students with better guidance in making educational and professional choices.
He also discussed different situations commonly faced by career counsellors in the field, addressed their questions, and exchanged views with them on important aspects of counselling sessions and effective student guidance.
