The Sindh government has imposed a complete ban on the use of CNG and LPG cylinders in vehicles used to transport students to and from schools.
The provincial education minister has issued new safety instructions to private schools, directing them to ensure that all school transport complies with the prescribed safety standards.
Under the new instructions, school vans are prohibited from using gas cylinders and unsafe methods of supplying petrol to vehicle engines.
The government has also banned the following practices:
-
Carrying more students than a vehicle's approved capacity.
-
Allowing students to travel while standing on the vehicle's footboard.
-
Supplying petrol to vehicle engines through bottles or cans.
The instructions highlight the risks associated with unsafe fuel handling and overcrowding in school transport.
All vehicles used for school transport must have a valid fitness certificate issued by the Sindh government.
A copy of the certificate must be available inside the vehicle for inspection. The education department has directed private educational institutions to strictly enforce the safety requirements. Schools found violating the instructions may face action against their management.
The government has stated that the safety of students is a priority and that no compromise will be made on their protection during transportation.
