The National Computing Education and Accreditation Council (NCEAC) in its meeting on this Friday decided to allow students with pre-medical background (FSc or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry and Biology) to get admission in BS Computing Programs. Previously, students were required to have studied Mathematics at intermediate level for admissions to BS computing programs such as CS, IT, Software engineering, Artificial Intelligence etc.. Hence pre-medical students were unable to get admissions to such programs.
The council held a number of meetings and discussions on the issues. Dr Qasim Sheikh of Shifa Tameer-e-Milat University drew council's attention to the issue, and recommended to implement the same with strong arguments. A computer science is the fastest growing filed and has now extended its scope in medicine and related disciplines.
The council finally decided that two additional pre-qualification courses in mathematics shall bring the students with pre-medical background at par with others. The students can take these special courses while taking other computing courses in their regular studies and the results of these additional courses shall also be recorded on their transcripts.
