After more than three and a half years, the Punjab government has completed the appointment process for permanent chairpersons of all nine educational boards in the province. The names of the selected candidates have been forwarded to the competent authority for the issuance of official notifications.
The appointments are expected to bring administrative stability to the boards, which have been functioning without permanent leadership for several years.
According to sources, Punjab's educational boards had remained without permanent chairpersons for nearly three to four years. During this period, the respective divisional commissioners were performing duties as acting chairpersons.
The absence of regular leadership had affected administrative decision-making and delayed several important matters related to board management and examinations.
Selected Chairpersons for Punjab Boards
The selected candidates for various educational boards include:
- Rawalpindi Board: Professor Tahir Mahmood
- Faisalabad Board: Dr. Aqsa Shabbir
- Lahore Board: Dr. Badr-ul-Islam
- Multan Board: Dr. Rana Binyamin
- Sargodha Board: Iqbal Mahmood
- Gujranwala Board: Ishtiaq Ahmad
- Sahiwal Board: Dr. Ahmad Muneeb
- Bahawalpur Board: Dr. Naseem
The appointment for the remaining board is also expected to be finalized through the official notification process.
Sources indicate that appointment notifications may be issued at any time. In cases where any selected candidate declines to assume the position, alternative candidates have also been recommended to the competent authority.
The appointments will officially take effect after the issuance of government notifications.
Second Phase to Include Controllers and Secretaries
Following the appointment of chairpersons, the Punjab government is expected to begin the second phase of reforms by appointing permanent Controllers of Examinations and Secretaries in the educational boards.
These key positions have also remained vacant or have been managed by acting officers for nearly three years.
Education experts believe that filling these important posts will improve governance, examination management, and administrative efficiency across Punjab's educational boards.
Importance of the Appointments
The appointment of permanent chairpersons is expected to:
- Improve administrative decision-making.
- Strengthen examination management.
- Speed up policy implementation.
- Enhance accountability within the boards.
- Improve student services and examination operations.
The move is being seen as an important step toward restoring institutional stability in Punjab's educational boards.
