The Punjab government has launched an initiative to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) training to 160,000 teachers as part of its plans to introduce AI into the education system.
The initiative, titled the AI Curriculum and Training Initiative, was launched to help teachers develop the knowledge and skills needed to teach students in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
Punjab Chief Minister’s Advisor on AI and Initiative, Ali Dar, highlighted the program while addressing participants at its launch ceremony.
Thousands of Students to Benefit
According to Ali Dar, the initiative will benefit not only teachers but also thousands of students across Punjab. He said training a large number of teachers would be an important step toward expanding AI education throughout the province.
The program aims to prepare teachers to work with the latest AI-related educational methods and technologies.
AI Curriculum and Teacher Training
The initiative is linked to Punjab's broader plan to introduce AI education in schools. The government has already announced plans to develop an AI curriculum for students from Class 1 to Class 12.
Officials said teacher training will be an important part of implementing the new curriculum. Teachers will need to understand AI concepts and modern teaching approaches so they can effectively introduce these subjects to students.
Focus on Future Skills
Ali Dar said the purpose of incorporating AI into the curriculum is to bring teacher training in line with modern and advanced standards.
The government expects the AI-focused education system to help students develop skills relevant to future academic and professional opportunities.
The launch event brought together representatives from the School Education Department, PECTAA, PMIU-PESRP, UNICEF and the Office of AI to discuss how artificial intelligence is changing teaching, learning and education.
The initiative is expected to form an important part of Punjab's wider efforts to increase digital learning and prepare both teachers and students for the growing role of AI in education.
