The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has announced that all public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in observance of Chehlum (20 Safar 1448 AH).
The decision was notified through an official order issued on July 31, 2026, following the approval granted by the Sindh Steering Committee during its meeting held on February 12, 2026.
Holiday for Government and Private Schools
According to the notification, the holiday will be observed by all schools and educational institutions working under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh.
The closure applies to:
- Government schools
- Private schools
- Other educational institutions under the department
As a result, educational activities across Sindh will remain suspended for one day on Tuesday, August 4.
Authorities Directed to Ensure Compliance
The School Education Department has instructed all concerned authorities to implement the decision and ensure the notification is communicated effectively.
The directives have been issued to:
- District Education Officers
- Regional education authorities
- Education boards
- Private educational institutions
- Other relevant officials
All institutions have been asked to observe the public holiday in accordance with the official notification.
The holiday has been declared to mark Chehlum (20 Safar 1448 AH), a religious observance recognized in the provincial holiday calendar.
Students, teachers, and administrative staff of both government and private educational institutions across Sindh will therefore enjoy a public holiday on August 4, 2026, before academic activities resume on the next working day.
