ISLAMABAD (P.R.) — A major reason for the shortage of educated and professionally skilled experts in Pakistan is the lack of proper career guidance and future planning among students. As a result, a significant number of students are unable to pursue higher education and make informed career choices.
In view of this situation, the Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training, in collaboration with the Federal Directorate of Education and Pakistan’s leading career counselling organization Eduvision Career Counselling, has launched a two-year long-term program titled “Mera Career.” The program aims to provide students enrolled in schools and colleges across Islamabad with guidance and support for future career planning.
Under the program, career counselling sessions were held at various schools and colleges in Islamabad, where students were informed about the growing need for skilled and technically trained professionals in society. The counsellors highlighted that a shortage of technical experts can create difficulties in everyday life and that preparing skilled technical professionals is essential for national development.
The sessions emphasized the need to develop individuals who are not only technically skilled but also well educated. The counsellors said that talented students should not be pushed into conventional career paths if their abilities and interests are better suited to technical fields. Instead, students with strong technical aptitude should be guided towards careers that match their abilities and personality.
The students were introduced to a wide range of fields under technical education, including Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, Civil Technology, Automotive Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Aviation Technology, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Telecommunication Technology, Mechatronics Technology, and Renewable Energy Technology, among others.
The counsellors stressed that these fields offer diverse educational and practical career opportunities and should receive greater attention in career guidance. They noted that students who possess technical abilities may not always perform at their full potential in conventional career fields, making it important to help them identify career options that align with their natural abilities and interests.
During the sessions, “Mera Career” program counsellors drew students’ attention to the wide range of career options available beyond a few traditionally popular professions and encouraged them to explore technical and emerging fields as potential pathways for their future development.
