The government plans to stop private medical and dental colleges from charging high fees. A limit will be set on the fee.
Many students dream of becoming doctors. Parents are ready to spend millions to make this happen. Private colleges take advantage of this and demand huge amounts in tuition fees.
Some colleges charge up to 4 million rupees per year, which makes it difficult for students to continue their studies.
Officials say the goal is to stop fee hikes and keep education affordable. Talks on setting a fee limit are done. An official announcement will come soon.
Earlier this year, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) restricted private colleges' fee collection. Following advice from the Senate’s Health Sub-Committee, the PMDC sent notices to colleges.
A fee collection ban was placed until the Medical Education Committee, led by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, gave its recommendations. The Prime Minister set up this committee to review the issue and suggest a fair fee structure.
