The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore is preparing to shift its matriculation and intermediate examinations towards a digital system, with plans to introduce the new method across four annual examination sessions.
BISE Lahore Chairman Professor Badrul Salam announced the initiative during a press conference on Friday, October 23, while discussing the board's ongoing examination reforms.
According to the chairman, the board has completed an initial trial of digital marking and is now working to familiarise students with the new examination process.
Preparations have also been completed for implementing digital examinations at examination centres and colleges. The board has already conducted a pilot test involving 500 students to assess the system's performance.
As the next step, BISE Lahore plans to arrange a mock examination for 3,000 candidates. The exercise will help students understand the digital process before its wider implementation.
The board is also educating students about the proposed examination arrangements and providing training related to the online marking of answer sheets.
The move is part of broader efforts to modernise examination procedures and improve the efficiency of assessment and paper checking. However, the chairman's announcement did not specify the exact dates for the full implementation of digital examinations.
During the briefing, Professor Badrul Salam also highlighted a 7% improvement in first-year intermediate results. He noted that the increase was not restricted to Lahore, as similar progress had been recorded across other educational boards in Punjab.
The press conference was also attended by Controller of Examinations Tauseef ur Rehman, State Officer Shehzad-ul-Hassan, and Public Relations Officer Tahir Javed.
The planned transition could bring significant changes to the examination process for matriculation and intermediate students. Further details regarding the implementation schedule and examination procedures are expected to clarify how the digital system will operate in future annual examinations.
