Punjab’s educational boards have decided to introduce a new marking system for examination papers, replacing the existing overall assessment approach with a more structured, question-by-question evaluation method.
Under the new system, rubric-based marking will be introduced to clearly define the criteria for awarding marks in each question. The approach is intended to give students a fair and transparent opportunity to earn marks according to specific assessment standards.
The new marking system will be implemented across all educational boards in Punjab, including the Lahore Board. Officials said the initiative aims to improve transparency in examinations and bring greater consistency to the marking process.
As part of the reforms, paper markers will also provide regular feedback on the quality of examination questions and the marking process. Markers will submit reports to the relevant education boards highlighting issues related to question quality, difficulty level and assessment standards.
According to board officials, the new marking mechanism will be implemented from the Second Annual Examinations. The revised system is expected to provide a more standardized assessment of students’ academic performance.
Officials said a key objective of the reform is to make Punjab’s examination results more credible and internationally acceptable. Greater transparency, consistency and quality in paper marking will remain central to the implementation of the new system.
