The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has banned smoking and the use of all types of tobacco and vaping products across its offices and premises throughout Pakistan. The restriction also applies to HEC guest houses and outdoor areas within its premises.
The ban covers traditional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, vapes, hookahs (sheesha), heated tobacco products and all other forms of smoking. The commission has warned that disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found violating the policy.
HEC Urges Universities to Maintain Smoke-Free Campuses
HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq, SI, said the commission is also coordinating with the heads of higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country to promote smoke-free environments.
According to him, most higher education institutions have already prohibited smoking on their campuses and premises.
The commission has encouraged staff, visitors and other concerned individuals to cooperate in implementing the policy and maintaining a clean, healthy and smoke-free environment.
The initiative aims to strengthen compliance with smoking restrictions within higher education settings and encourage healthier surroundings for employees, students and visitors.
HEC has made it clear that the ban applies to all covered smoking products, including newer alternatives such as e-cigarettes and vapes, rather than conventional cigarettes alone.
