Pakistan Medical Commission PMC has made it mandatory for Overseas Students and Foreign students seeking admission in MBBS and BDS programs in medical and dental colleges in Pakistan. Prior to this, overseas Pakistanis and foreign students had the option to either appear in MDCAT or submit the scores of SAT-II subject test.
However, due to the current short time in admission after the promulgation of the PMC act 2020 and the situation arising as a pandemic around the globe, it would not be possible to offer the MDCAT internationally for foreign students. Therefore for this year, an exception is considered to facilitate foreign students especially expatriate Pakistanis to apply. This exception shall include the SAT-II result of all relevant subjects being Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Math, and English as form the structure of MDCAT.
PMC Final Decision regarding SAT-II requirement for foreign Students
In view of the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, foreign students are permitted ONLY for the 2021 session to apply with SAT II results instead of MDCAT. SAT II requirements and weightage shall be; Biology 40%, Chemistry 30%, Physics or Maths 20%, English 10%
it is pertinent to mention here that previously the SAT-II results of only three subjects were required for admission to MBBS and BDS program. This has created a big problem for overseas Pakistanis seeking admission to medical and dental college as most of the students had already appeared in SAT-II and now the time remaining is very short to appear in extra English subject.
However, from the next year for admission to medical and dental colleges in Pakistan, foreign students and overseas Pakistanis would be required to appear in the National MDCAT conducted by PMC to be eligible for admission to MBBS and BDS programs.
