Pakistan Engineering Council PEC issues parents/students alerts for those seeking admission to engineering programs in Pakistan and abroad. Students and parents are advised to ensure that PEC accredits the engineering program before seeking university admission.
It is for the information of all Students, Parents, and HEls that before seeking admission in any Engineering degree program in Pakistan, it must be assured whether the degree/program has been accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Moreover, it is to apprise that PEC will register only such graduates of accredited engineering programs/batches which are included either in "First Schedule" or "Second Schedule" after due procedure/assessment under PEC Act and Byelaws. Details of Accredited Engineering Programs are available at the PEC website, on links below:
Why PEC Accreditation Matters
PEC is the regulatory body responsible for accrediting engineering programs offered by Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in Pakistan. Only graduates from PEC-accredited programs are eligible for professional registration and can legally practice engineering in Pakistan.
If a student enrolls in a non-accredited program, they will not be registered as an engineer by PEC, potentially leading to issues in finding jobs, obtaining professional licenses, and securing further education.
Guidelines for Students Seeking Admission in Pakistan
Before applying to any undergraduate engineering program in Pakistan, students must ensure that:
-
The degree program is accredited by PEC under First Schedule or Second Schedule of the PEC Act, 1976.
-
The institution is officially recognized and its program is listed on the PEC website.
-
The student has obtained at least 60% marks in Intermediate/F.Sc. (Pre-Engineering) or an equivalent qualification.
How to Verify PEC Accreditation? Students can check the list of accredited engineering programs on the official PEC website at:

-

Guidelines for Students Seeking Admission Abroad
Many students opt for foreign universities due to high merit and limited seats in Pakistani institutions. However, pursuing an engineering degree abroad comes with additional PEC registration requirements:
-
The program must be from a PEC-recognized foreign institution listed in the Second Schedule of the PEC Act.
-
Students should verify the university’s accreditation with relevant engineering bodies in that country (e.g., ABET in the USA, Engineers Australia, etc.).
-
Graduates from non-accredited foreign institutions may face challenges in registering with PEC and finding engineering jobs in Pakistan.
Pakistan Engineering Council will only register those students whose degree programs are accredited by PEC and are included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule. A list of Accredited programs may be viewed at

Under Process or New Engineering Programs offered in Pakistan
1. After requisite initial scrutiny and subsequent Zero visits, PEC provisionally allows grants NOC to start a new engineering program offered in Pakistan. Details of such engineering programs are available on the PEC website: https://pec.org.pk/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Zero-Interim-All-Zones-data-upto-106- EAB-Aug-2022.pdf
2. After the grant of NOC, new engineering programs are provided necessary facilitation and expert assistance by PEC through periodic evaluation (interim and accreditation visits) as per a well-defined and comprehensive mechanism. Only such engineering programs that meet stipulated criteria duly evaluated through accreditation visits in the final year are accredited and approved by PEC HEls are responsible for complying with and maintaining all PEC rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards, and in case of non-compliance permission of such programs is cancelled.
3. Grant of NOC/interim permission for an engineering program does not guarantee that such program will also be accredited by PEC.
4. PEC will register such engineering graduates whose programs are duly accredited and thereby notified through SRO (Gazette Notification).
