The Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) has announced a revised Smart Syllabus for Class 9 students appearing in the 2027 annual board examinations. The new syllabus will apply during the 2026–27 academic session across all Punjab educational boards.
Through this revision, the authority has introduced the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP), which includes selected syllabus reductions, deleted topics and exercise questions, updated paper pairing schemes, and new model papers.
According to an official notification issued on November 6, 2026, the revised syllabus was approved by PECTAA's Academics Committee during its 13th meeting held on November 5.
Major Changes in Class 9 Smart Syllabus 2026–27
Under the new Accelerated Learning Program, PECTAA has identified specific chapters, topics, and exercises that will no longer be included in the Class 9 examination syllabus.
The revisions cover several compulsory and elective subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, English, Urdu, and Islamic Studies.
Some of the major changes include:
-
Mathematics: The complete chapter on Logic has been removed.
-
Biology: The chapter on Biostatistics has been excluded.
-
Chemistry: Two complete chapters, Empirical Data Collection and Analysis, and Laboratory and Practical Skills, have been removed.
-
English: Three units have been excluded from the compulsory Class 9 English syllabus. Teachers will focus on the remaining eight units, and examination questions will not be taken from the deleted units.
PECTAA has also specified syllabus reductions for Physics, Urdu, and Islamic Studies. Students should consult the revised subject-wise syllabus to identify all deleted topics, exercises, and questions.
New Pairing Schemes and Model Papers
Along with reducing the syllabus, PECTAA has also approved updated paper pairing schemes and model papers for Class 9.
These resources are intended to help students understand the revised examination structure, identify important sections, and prepare according to the updated paper pattern.
Students and teachers are advised to follow the newly approved documents rather than relying on previous syllabus versions or older pairing schemes.
All Punjab Boards to Follow the New Syllabus
The revised Smart Syllabus will be implemented uniformly across all nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) in Punjab.
The boards covered by this decision include:
-
BISE Lahore
-
BISE Gujranwala
-
BISE Rawalpindi
-
BISE Faisalabad
-
BISE Multan
-
BISE Sargodha
-
BISE Sahiwal
-
BISE Bahawalpur
-
BISE Dera Ghazi Khan
The new syllabus will be followed by all relevant schools and examination boards for the 2027 Class 9 annual examinations.
Important Instructions for Class 9 Students
Students preparing for the 2027 board examinations should obtain the latest PECTAA Smart Syllabus for their respective subjects. They should also use the updated pairing schemes and model papers while preparing for examinations.
Teachers should ensure that classroom instruction and test preparation follow the revised syllabus. Questions from officially deleted topics and units will not be included in the relevant board examinations.
The revised programme is designed to reduce the academic workload and help students complete their remaining syllabus within the available academic session.
