Assistant Directors are actively involved in field operations directing the Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Constables to perform the assignments under the supervision of superiors. The Intelligence Bureau has dedicated teams to deal with and gather intelligence on domestic issues, counter-intelligence, sectarian violence, surveillance, and counter-terrorism. Federal Public Service Commission hires the Assistant Directors of BPS 17 for the Intelligence Bureau. Assistant Directors after the completion of their training work in these dedicated teams. Application process:
The applications are submitted online to FPSC after paying a challan of PKR 300/- to any National Bank branch or State Bank of Pakistan before the deadline for application submission.
Open Merit and Quota Seats:
IB is a federal institution, so it has representation from all the federating units i.e. provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad Capital Territory, and Gilgit Baltistan. The candidates should score a minimum score of 50% marks in the descriptive tests so they can be considered for the next phase. This is the minimum score to pass the exam.
The final phase to become Assistant Director IB:
Five top-scoring candidates in the descriptive test against one vacant seat are evaluated by a panel of interviewers. The interview is the assessment of a candidate’s personality and suitability for the Intelligence Bureau. The nature of questions changes from personal to academic and opinions about the different national and international events. The personality of the applicant is also analyzed by the Psychologist present in the panel.
Posting Area:
The successful candidates can be posted anywhere in Pakistan as it’s a federal Institution. The trained Assistant Directors will primarily be posted to those teams where there are vacant positions.
IB Pay scale and privileges:
Assistant Directors of IB are paid against BPS17 by the Federal government. The incremental increase in the salaries is as announced by the Federal Government in the Budget. There are no special allowances like FIA in IB. They are non-uniformed and work in the civil dress code.

The primary task of the Intelligence Bureau is to gather intelligence for domestic, counter-terrorism, foreign operatives and agents of hostile agencies, and internal security matters.
