The Sindh Government has announced a major plan to modernize the province's examination system by introducing digital technologies across all educational boards under the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project (SSEIP).
The initiative aims to replace traditional examination practices with modern digital solutions, including e-marking, examination digitalization, and institutional capacity building to improve transparency, efficiency, and merit in the assessment process.
The decision was discussed during a high-level meeting chaired by Muhammad Ismail Rahu, Sindh's Minister for Universities and Educational Boards, at the office of the Secretary of Universities.
The meeting was attended by Asian Development Bank (ADB) fact-finding mission representatives, including Khurram, Marla, Samina, and Dr. Usman, along with Secretary Universities Muhammad Abbas Baloch, chairpersons of Intermediate, Secondary, and Technical Education Boards across Sindh, and other senior officials.
Project Director Rizwan Soomro, Deputy Project Director Dr. Luqman Nohri, and examination reforms expert Ata Hussain Lakho also participated in the discussions.
E-Marking and Digital Exams to Improve Transparency
During the meeting, officials reviewed proposals to modernize the province's examination system by introducing e-marking, digitizing examination processes, and strengthening the institutional capacity of educational boards.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Muhammad Ismail Rahu said the government is moving away from conventional paper-based evaluation methods and plans to introduce electronic marking (e-marking) across Sindh's educational boards.
He said the new system will help improve transparency, fairness, merit, accuracy, and the overall efficiency of examination management while reducing human errors and speeding up the result preparation process.
Cabinet Approval to Be Sought
The minister stated that the reform proposals will soon be presented before the Sindh Cabinet for approval. Once approved, implementation of the project will begin on a priority basis.
Modern Equipment and IT Training
Under the ADB-supported project, educational boards will receive modern technological infrastructure, including high-speed scanners, paper-cutting machines, servers, and other digital equipment required for a technology-driven examination system.
In addition, IT experts will provide specialized training to board officials and staff to enhance their technical skills and ensure the successful implementation of digital examination and governance systems.
Karachi Board Chairman Named Focal Person
During the meeting, Faqeer Muhammad Lakho, Chairman of the Karachi Intermediate Board, was appointed as the focal person for coordinating the examination modernization project across Sindh.
The provincial minister expressed confidence that the reforms, supported by the Asian Development Bank, would transform Sindh's examination system in line with international standards while strengthening the governance and institutional performance of educational boards.
The initiative is expected to make examinations more transparent, efficient, and reliable, marking a significant step toward the digital transformation of the province's education sector.
