Lahore: The Punjab government is considering major changes to the registration period and fees for private schools, with a proposal to register schools for four years and link registration charges to their monthly tuition fees.
Under the proposed rules, schools charging up to Rs. 1,500 per month would pay a registration fee of Rs. 10,000. Schools charging up to Rs. 2,500 would pay Rs. 20,000, while schools with monthly fees of up to Rs. 5,000 would pay Rs. 50,000.
For schools charging up to Rs. 10,000 per month, the proposed registration fee is Rs. 100,000. Schools charging up to Rs. 20,000 would pay Rs. 200,000, while schools with monthly fees above Rs. 20,000 could be charged a registration fee of up to Rs. 1 million.
Under the proposal, registration would remain valid for four years. At the time of renewal, schools would be required to pay 50 percent of the applicable registration fee.
The new fee structure and registration system are still under consideration. A proposal to seek approval from the relevant cabinet committee is also being considered. The new rules will be implemented only after approval.
The proposed changes would significantly increase the registration fee for some private schools compared with the existing Rs. 10,000 fee mentioned in the report.
