Lahore: The Punjab government has launched a large-scale education infrastructure development program aimed at modernizing public schools across the province, with plans to construct 25,000 new classrooms in government educational institutions.
The announcement was made by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat during a visit to Multan, where he inaugurated development projects at Government Aam Khas High School and reviewed ongoing education reforms.
Massive Investment in School Infrastructure
According to the minister, the Punjab government is investing billions of rupees to improve educational facilities and provide students with a better learning environment. The initiative is being implemented under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to strengthen public education across the province.
As part of the program, the School Education Department is accelerating the construction of new classrooms while also upgrading essential facilities in government schools.
IT Labs, Sports Facilities, and Security Upgrades
Besides new classrooms, the development plan includes the establishment of modern Information Technology (IT) laboratories, improvement of sports facilities, and strengthening of school boundary walls to ensure a safer and more productive learning environment for students.
Education officials say these upgrades are intended to help schools meet modern educational requirements and support students in developing both academic and technological skills.
Largest Education Development Program in Punjab
Rana Sikandar Hayat described the initiative as one of the largest school development programs in Punjab’s history. He stated that the government is committed to providing students with improved educational resources, modern facilities, and quality learning opportunities regardless of their location.
The minister also laid the foundation stone for additional classrooms during his visit and directed education authorities to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects.
Increased Support for Students
In another significant announcement, the minister revealed that the per-student subsidy for children studying in Punjab Education Foundation-supported schools has been doubled. The move aims to expand access to education and support more students from low-income families.
Focus on Quality Education
Punjab’s latest education initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at improving academic standards, increasing enrollment, and modernizing government schools throughout the province.
Officials believe that expanded infrastructure, improved facilities, and greater investment in education will contribute to better learning outcomes and create more opportunities for students across Punjab.
