The University of the Punjab has officially announced its Undergraduate Admission Test for the academic year 2026–27, and this test is now a mandatory step for students who want to apply to its undergraduate programs. If you are planning to take admission in one of Pakistan’s most prestigious public universities, understanding this test is essential because it directly affects your merit.
The university has scheduled the admission test on 14th June 2026 (Sunday). All applicants, whether they have already completed their HSSC (Intermediate) or are waiting for their final results, can apply and appear in this test. This gives students a fair chance to secure admission even before results are announced.
Test Structure, Categories and Importance
One important thing to understand is how much this test matters. The PU Admission Test carries 25% weightage in the final merit calculation, which means your performance can significantly improve or reduce your chances of admission. Many students ignore this and rely only on board marks, but this test can become a deciding factor, especially in competitive programs.
The test is divided into different categories based on your academic background. Students from Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, ICS (Physics or Statistics), Arts and Humanities, General Science, and Commerce all have separate test categories. This ensures that the paper matches your field of study and evaluates relevant knowledge rather than testing everyone on the same content.
Another key point is that this test is not just for one program. Once you pass it, you become eligible to apply for multiple undergraduate programs offered by the university when admissions open. However, previous years’ test results will not be accepted, so even if you appeared earlier, you must take the test again for 2026 admissions.
Registration Process and Key Instructions
The registration process is simple and fully online. Students need to apply through the official admission test portal, generate a fee challan, and submit a fee of PKR 2500. The fee is non-refundable, so applicants should carefully complete their registration. Payment can be made through banks like HBL, UBL, or via mobile banking, and uploading proof of payment is necessary to complete the process.
The test will be conducted in major cities across Pakistan, making it accessible for students from different regions. This reduces travel difficulties and allows more candidates to participate comfortably.
For students aiming for specific programs, there are additional requirements to keep in mind. For example, engineering admissions require this PU test as per PEC guidelines, while law programs require both LAT and the PU Admission Test. Similarly, candidates applying to the College of Art and Design must also pass a separate drawing or aptitude test. Pharmacy applicants can use either MDCAT or the PU Admission Test.
The last date to register for the PU Admission Test is 25th May 2026, so students should not delay their application. Missing this deadline means losing the opportunity to apply for undergraduate programs at the University of the Punjab for this academic year.
